Digipak Research #1
Front Cover
A digipak I chose to study was that of Rihanna's album "Loud". This example of a digipak carries an obvious theme of red and roses which is portrayed through the pictures used for this piece. Rihanna has used herself as her brand due to the whole of her digipak containing images of her, this in itself will draw attention to the digipak because of her bold image and colour of her hair which in turn matches the vibrant red theme she has used throughout.
The title of the album is "Loud"; this title is placed and the bottom of the digipak and evenly spread out to fill that area. Its also in capital letters which makes it more powerful and eye catching therefore more likely to attract consumers. Due to her being so well known and her picture used on the front cover shows who she is and is such a bold image she has moved her name into the spine so the everything else can take centre stage. The mass use of red used in this digipak could represent anger or love, this would be the immediate thought of a customer. She therefore could be expressing both of these emotions in her songs that make up this album.
This is the back of the digipak, this is a simple design with the list of her songs on the right hand side and the mention of the producers and other information below that. The main image on the back is of Rihanna again with the main attention being on her. Her hair due to the colour of it stand out most where the titles of her songs are a diluted colour red. She has left it simple but yet makes herself stand out due to promoting herself as an artist.
The image used here is similar to the one on the front cover, due to the key themes being red and roses here is a good example of it with there being a rose in Rihanna's hand. The rose is meant to symbolize love, beaut and dominance which links in with all the songs that are on this album.
This image is a personal image which could in turn mean that this album is one that is personal to her. The rose has made another appearance here which shows that the rose is a symbol of Rhianna, its something that we associate with her and something that represents her due to it showing up many times throughout her digipak.
Digipak Research
Here is Katy Perry's digipak for "Teenage Dream". Straight away you can see the style of the artist and her music is hugely shown through the colours used throughout this design. The colours give a feel on enjoyment and brightness, so this could reflect in her music. The two CD's within this pack have been made to look like two sweets making the idea of this digipak fun and interesting; also due to this it could appeal to Katy Perry's younger audience.

The Leaflet inside the digipak has a repetitive theme of candyfloss throughout the whole of it. This makes the leaflet have an overall obvious theme rather than having loads of them and confusing the audience of the genre. It makes the leaflet fun and bright for the audience. The colours and use of sweets could be seen as enforcing the vibrant pop feel of her genre of music. The font within the leaflet is printed in "candy red and white" which again could be related to her young feeling and her younger target audience for this album. The font is spiraling which influences the funess of this digipak due to it all being related to sweets, it could be a guilty pleasure album and she has tried to show this through sweets. The pictures used on this leaflet show her with cakes which could imply that she is a sweet natured person and this could be the reasoning for the sweet theme.
The image inside of the digipak shows Katy Perry dressed up like a prom queen. She wears a crown like she has won a title. I believe the reason for her using the prom queen them is to create imagery and to link it with the title of her album "Teenage Dreams". Every girl wants to become prom queen which makes this relateable to her audience. Because of this it adds a narrative feel and it could show what her songs are going to be about.
